I am 63 years old now. My teaching experience started when I was studying myself in grade 6 myself. It started with teaching my own brothers and sisters till the time they were in schools. Even when I was an engineering student, I was a private tutor. And then, during the time when I was working in industries in India and abroad, I was doing private tuitions out of my passion. I taught international students also.
This vast experience has taught me to follow the very basics when it is coming to the methodology of teaching a student is concerned. These are:
a) Read the students minds and understand his/her current level of maturity/understanding of the subject
b) Identify the gap between his/her knowledge and the syllabus or his/her expectations/goals and work out a roadmap to achieve the goal. This roadmap will have three components: short term, medium term and long-term strategies.
c) Explain the student about this strategy and take the student on board.
d) Implement the strategy through a balance between the regular/routine class work, extra studies, notes, mock tests, discussions
