    I HAVE WORKED IN VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS THE LAST 3 BEING(:)PM CELL(PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CELL),KILOKAR CC & SCADA(SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND DATA ACQUISITION).IN THE PM CELL,WE WERE SEEING TO THE MAINTENANCE OF CLOSE TO 12000 TRANSFORMERS OF BOTH LT(LOW TENSION) & HT(HIGH TENSION).WE HAD TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE OUTAGES,FOLLOW UP ON THE REASONS FOR THE SAME AND MAKE THE CAUSE AND EFFECT ANALYSIS FOR ALL THE TRANSFORMERS.THIS ANALYSIS FOR THE CURRENT YEAR,WOULD BE COMPARED TO THAT OF ATLEAST THE LAST 3 YEARS,TO DRAW A FINAL CONCLUSIVE LIST OF WHERE THE FAULT IS IN THE TRANSFORMER.WITH THESE FINDINGS WE HAD TO BE IN TOUCH WITH THE STORES AND PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENTS AND INDICATE TO THEM WHAT ALL THEY WOULD BE REQUIRING AND IN WHAT QUANTITY.THE PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENT WOULD OFCOURSE BE GETTING THE QUOTATIONS FROM THE VARIOUS VENDORS.THESE WOULD HAVE TO BE REVIEWED BY US(THE TECHNICAL PORTION) AND WE WOULD FORWARD OUR COMMENTS TO THEM.THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT WHEN WE ARE TRYING SOME NEW PRODUCT/GOING IN FOR A REPLACEMENTOR EVEN GOING IN FOR A NEW VENDOR WHICH IS OTHER THAN WHAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED IN OUR EXISTING EQUIPMENT OR TRANSFORMER ETC.BUILDING FURTHER ON THIS,WE HAD TO BE CONSTANTLY LOOKING OUT FOR ANY FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS/NEW PRODUCTS COMING IN THE MARKET THAT COULD BE INSTALLED IN EXISTING FRAMEWORK.OFCOURSE,WITH ALL THIS WE HAVE TO CERTAINLY KEEP IN MIND OUR BUDGET FOR THE YEAR.KEEPING ALL THESE FACTORS INFRONT OF US, WE HAD TO GIVE OUR RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE PROCURENENT & STORES DEPARTMENTS,WHO HAVE TO PROCURE THE MATERIAL WELL IN TIME SO THAT IT IS AVAILABLE WHEN NEEDED.HERE I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION THAT THE PM CELL IS REALLY ACTIVE FROM MID SEPT TO END APRIL,DURING WHICH PERIOD WE HAVE TO COMPLETE ALL THE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES.THIS IS MAINLY BECAUSE TO CARRY OUT MAINTENANCE WE HAVE TO TAKE A SHUTDOWN OF THE TRANSFORMER WHICH IS CERTAINLY NOT POSSIBLE IN THE SUMMER MONTHS OWING TO THE TREMENDOUS HEAT.IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS TARGET WE HAVE TO BE FULLY PREPARED IN EVERY ASPECT WHEN WE APPROACH MID SEPT.BY THIS I MEAN THAT1.WE HAVE CHECKED OUR CAUSE AND EFFECT ANALYSIS FOR THE WHOLE YEAR&2.COMPARED IT WITH THE RESULTS OF ATLEAST THE LAST 3 YEARS TO SEE IF EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE3.WE HAVE FINALLY DRAWN OUR CONCLUSIONS AS WHAT ARE THE PREVAILING DEFECTS/REPLACEMENTS WHICH ARE REQUIRED IN THE TRANSFORMER.THIS HAS TO BE DONE FOR ALL THE 12000TRANSFORMERS(LT & HT).4.THE MATERIAL REQUIRED HAS TO BE INDICATED TO THE PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENT IN TANDEM WITH WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE STORES PRESENTLY.ALL THIS OFCOURSE HAS TO BE DONE WITHIN THE AMBIT OF THE BUDGET WHICH HAS BEEN ALLOCATED FOR THESE ACTIVITIES.PARALLELY WE HAVE TO DRAW A SCHEDULE FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE TRANSFORMERS,ALL12000,WHICH HAVE TO BE ACCOMMODATED DURING THE PERIOD FROM MID SEPT TO END APR.THE DELHI GOVT. DOES NOT ALLOW US TO TAKE A SHUTDOWN OF THE TRANSFORMERS BEYOND THIS PERIOD DUE TO THE SUMMER MONTHS OWING TO THE HEAT.SO THIS SCHEDULE HAS TO CAREFULLY BE WORKED OUT FOR EACH DIVISION & SUB DIVISION TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE HOLIDAYS/THE MATERIAL AVAILABILITY/MANPOWER AVAILABILITY ETC.FINALLY WHEN WE TAKE THE SHUTDOWNS WE HAD TO VISIT EACH SITE AND SUPERVISE AND SEE THAT THE WORK OF CLEANING,RETAPING,OIL FILLING/REFILLING,WORK OF END JOINTS AND THE GENERAL UPKEEP IS BEING CARRIED OUT PROPERLY,TIMELY AND ACCURATELY.SHUTDOWNS ARE GENERALLY FROM 10A.M TO 5P.M,DURING WHICH PERIOD THE WORK ON THE ENTIRE TRANSFORMER HAS TO ESSENTIALLY BE COMPLETED.SCADA(SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND DATA ACQUISITION) IS ONE OF THE MAIN WINGS OF ANY POWER DISTRIBUTION COMPANY.FOR BSES RAJDHANI POWER IT IS LOCATED AT KALKAJI,NEW DELHI.I WAS PLACED HERE FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS DURING WHICH I WAS SEEING THE OUTAGES.I WAS TO ESSENTIALLY ENSURE THE TIMELY COMPLETION I.E THE TIMELY CLOSURE OF ALL COMPLAINTS.BSES IS PENALISED FOR ANY COMPLAINT(S) THAT IS NOT CLOSED WITHIN 1 HOUR.FOR THIS I HAD TO BE IN CONSTANT TOUCH WITH THE COMPLAINT CENTERS ALWAYS PUSHING THEM TO CLOSE EVERY COMPLAINT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
