Bonjour ! Hello! I am Gabriel Karkovsky, an award-winning film photographer specializing in capturing everyday life in European cities and creating vintage black-and-white portraits. Exhibited and published internationally, I am also a lecturer in photography at the Prague School of Creative Communication.

My teaching methodology is grounded in experiential learning and hands-on practice. I believe that the best way to learn photography is through immersion in real-world environments, where students can explore, experiment, and capture their surroundings in an authentic way. My classes often include outdoor photo walks, practical assignments in urban spaces, and critiques that emphasize both technical precision and creative expression.

I place strong emphasis on the fundamentals of analog photography, from mastering exposure and composition to developing film and creating prints in the darkroom. However, my approach is not purely technical—I encourage my students to think critically about the stories they are telling through their images and the emotions they want to convey.

With a focus on fostering individuality, I guide each student in finding their unique voice as an artist. My teaching style is interactive and student-centered, aiming to create a collaborative learning environment where experimentation is encouraged, and mistakes are viewed as valuable opportunities for growth.

As a photographer and educator, I view photography as a bridge between the past and present, especially through the use of film. Analog techniques offer a tactile, slower process that allows one to truly engage with the medium, making it perfect for capturing the fleeting moments of everyday life. My goal is to inspire students to embrace this slower, deliberate approach, to appreciate the imperfections, and to find beauty in the unexpected.
