I have over 40 years teaching and practical experience at technical certificate and university college level . I am dedicated and a good time keeper giving a personal touch to whatever I do. My teaching skills include;
Problem Based Learning (PBL) that motivates students to fully participate in the search for knowledge individually and in tutorial groups. The student gets a relevant developed topic with some basic introductory detail . The relevant PBL topics are developd from the contents of an approved institutional curriculum . model From the introductory session, the student then upscales on the already known knowledge through brainstorming,researches from online, resource facilities like libraries, theses, publications and makes notes in the way the student understands best with some guidance from me during the time for feed back. There is a students booklet with the days topic from which the student generates the theme, key words, key phrases and broad learning objective and specific objective(s) as is required. The student then searches for the information and gives feed back in a tutorial once or twice a week. During the feed back, I give inputs where there is need to do so. The feed back forms about 20% of assessment. After covering 30% and 70% of the coursework, I also give two (2) take away Continuos Assessments (CATs) worth 15% each totalling 30%. I also assign a term paper coverieng aspects of the course which is worth 40%. I assess atendance at 10%.
For the post graduate candidate, I am in constant and regular communication with the student along every step from the development ot the research topic to its submissionand defense until the award of the degree and publication in relevant journals. I ensure that the institutions requirements are fully met as per the provided guidelines and writing styles and time frames. I assess student thesis development based on an institutional guideline. When marking a thesis, I use the institutional format that gives the assigned grades for the thesis as per the table of content. The awarded mark depends on whether I am internal or external examiner. My marks are +/- 1 to 2 marks different from the main examiners.
I am fully focused on my work and my students attain high grades of 60% plus
Completion rates for my students are over 95%. This I achieve through encouraging my students and listening to them. I focus on each student and try to work on their of weakness by counselling them at timess.
I have skills for developing curricular that suit the clients requirements. I can also conduct consutancy training of trainers on Food Hygiene and Safety which includescritical aspects of food processing and handling, Meat Inspection and Processing, Abattoir design in the tropical set up
