I am an English tutor working at Peace Academy in Jacó teaching English, History, and Drama. Prior to this, I worked at The King’s School Canterbury in their drama department as a TA, LAMDA coach and assistant director. I also work part-time at a home-schooling tutoring company (The Tutorial Foundation) teaching English literature and language to home-schooled students across a range of ages, as well as a substitute teacher at Rochester Independent College as an English literature, language, and ESL teacher.

After completing training for my teaching qualification (PGCE) I worked as an English/drama teacher at The King’s School Canterbury, Dover Christ Church Academy, and The Folkestone School for Girls. In the latter position, I was a form tutor and English teacher with pastoral, academic, and extracurricular responsibilities where I was involved in assisting in directing several school plays and participating in activities such as school trips.

I have a wide range of experience teaching in different secondary and primary settings, teaching all English topics across KS2 language and literature to A-Level. The experience I have received teaching in different schooling types from private, comprehensive, and grammar, has given me a breadth of teaching experiences that have helped me teach a wide range of students from different backgrounds and ability levels or complex SEN needs. I have taught from Key Stage 3 – 5 so I am also very familiar with the GCSE and A-Level curriculums, most recently gaining experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) this summer past.

My approach invites students to consider a holistic approach to the subject and encourages epistemic insight into why English content and skills are useful or relevant to real-world settings. I aim to focus on the individual student and work in collaboration with them regarding their goals and the areas of study that need work. Not every student will like every subject, but there are ways to reach every student and make any subject enjoyable to them once that students feel comfortable communicating how they like to learn and know that they are listened to not simply spoken at. It is through this forming of dialogue that I have found students often feel the comfort and security to make mistakes and explore their interests further.

Aside from the study and teaching of English literature and language, my other passion is acting and drama. In my teens and early 20s, I performed in various Shakespeare plays while at school, and then with the National Youth Music Theatre. I further cultivated my passion for theatre while at The University of Nottingham (where I received a 2:1 in English), where I was an active member of student-led, The New Theatre, winning an acting award whilst there. This inspired me to go to drama school (ArtsEd) in London and work for several years as a professional actor performing in audiobooks, films, and theatre projects.
