I want to use my student's interests as the avenue in which I can teach how music works. Rather than just providing examples from unfamiliar genres, I would prefer to use the student's favorite music so that, rather than feeling like it's an obligation, they get to learn more about what they enjoy and appreciate the lessons when they start applying them to either the examples I provide or new music they explore.
I don't want to teach my students foreign concepts that they feel is a requirement; I want to show them how their interests are relevant in what I'm teaching. That way, they passively learn and apply the lessons in their free time, or studying becomes much more interesting rather than merely something they need to do.
