An Economics faculty member typically has responsibilities that encompass teaching, research, and service to the academic institution. Design, develop, and deliver undergraduate and/or graduate courses in economics, including core subjects like microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, public economics, and specialized topics based on expertise. Conduct lectures, seminars, or workshops. Engage students through discussions, assignments, and interactive teaching methods. Update and enhance the economics curriculum to stay current with new theories, models, and teaching practices. Provide academic and career advising to students, mentor undergraduate students in research projects, and supervise. Evaluate students’ performance through exams, papers, presentations, and projects. Provide timely and constructive feedback. Conduct original research. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda. Seek funding for research projects by writing proposals and applying for grants from public and private institutions. Guide and collaborate with students on research projects and papers, particularly at the graduate level. Participate in departmental, faculty, or university-wide committees. Contribute to policy development, curriculum review, or other academic matters. Assist in attracting and retaining students, including participating in admissions processes and recruitment events. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in economics and pedagogy. Be an active member of professional associations. Handle administrative tasks, such as maintaining course syllabi, gradebooks, and records of student progress.
