My teaching style is by question and answer. I try to determine the level of mastery by their score on the previous exams they took. Then I will try to look at the solutions they made. And if they didn't answer the question, then I will try to explain the concept of that topic then proceeding to the question and answer.

This will help them to understand their wrong solutions or misunderstanding with the concept of the topics.

I tend to stick to the mastery of basics before proceeding to the higher level of topics. If I think that their basic understanding of the concepts is good enough, then I will try to ask them their understanding of the concepts before proceeding to the higher level of mastery.
