MIKE CASTAÑEDA GRUTA Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English
Hi, I’m Teacher Mike! In my teaching profession, there are three things I always tell my students. First, don’t be shy. Second, ask questions. Third, if you don’t practice, learning is pointless. Always remember that education is truly important and an individual goal. In the end, we are not measured by our abilities but by our products. Don’t be shy fosters willingness to accept flaws and ability to be corrected. It gives us the courage to grow by accepting our weaknesses and building on them positively. We do not judge ourselves; instead, we embrace opportunities for developing and honing our skills.
Ask questions serve as the cornerstone of what we know and don’t know. We display our ability to seek help and guidance to ensure that we are learning the right way. Asking questions is almost free, but asking the right question to the right person is indeed more valuable.
Learning without putting it into practice is useless. The end goal is for us to be able to transfer our knowledge into meaningful output. We only serve our purpose if students truly learn to utilize their potential in different areas of their life.
In learning these three things, I do not rely on knowledge alone. Putting our hearts into our profession goes a long way. I also believe that building connections is essential in learning. We may forget information, but we never forget good relationships.
