Welcome, My name's Brett
Learning how to be a drummer is not merely about learning how to play the drums. While it is imperative to learn the fundamentals of technique, it is important to remember that these techniques are there to be used in creative musical ways. It is vital to have a solid understanding of music genres so that we know how to voice our instrument correctly in different contexts.
While we learn new drumming ideas, we will also learn about different music so that we can develop our voice on the drums and be confident in our playing. We will learn how to impress people but we will also learn how to move them.
Music is a language that is spoken entirely through emotion, it is important to remember that everything we do on the drums is done to serve the music or get people to dance.
So come with me and learn the fundamentals so that we can make beautiful music.
Have a great day friends.

Experience
All levels drum teacher (Jan, 2013–Present) at Freelance
I have been teaching and performing drum for over 10 years with 18 years experience on the drums. My drums and percussion lecturer was Lloyd Martin - an amazing drummer and musician. I have taught all the fundamentals of technique including different stick grips, bass drum techniques, how to move around and set up the kit ergonomically, controlling hit velocity, rudiments with hands and feet, tuning and how to produce different sounds on the drums. These foundational elements are there to enable us to apply rhythmic ideas in a musical context. My training uses these technical elements and helps apply them in musical context by studying genres of music so that we can be confident in our playing. We will not "find our voice" on the drums but rather "develop our voice" to become great speakers on our instrument. We will not focus on keeping time for the band, but rather learn how to make time interesting for the listener.
