Portfolio of Neha Zahid
Introduction
As a devoted Quran teacher with over 1.5 years of experience, my mission is to impart the timeless wisdom of the Quran to students of all ages and backgrounds. My teaching philosophy centers on nurturing a deep, personal connection to the Quran while making its teachings accessible and relevant in today’s world.
Educational Background
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University, completed in 2015, where I specialized in Quranic studies. Additionally, I obtained a Tajweed Certification from the International Institute of Quranic Studies in 2016 and an Ijazah in Quran Memorization in 2017, which attest to my proficiency in Quranic recitation and memorization.
Teaching Philosophy and Approach
My approach to teaching the Quran is holistic and student-centered. I believe that each student’s journey with the Quran is unique, and I tailor my methods to meet individual needs. I use a combination of traditional techniques and modern tools to create engaging lessons. Emphasizing the beauty and relevance of the Quranic text, I encourage students to reflect on its meanings and apply its teachings to their daily lives.
Teaching Experience
Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching at various institutions, including the Islamic Center of Karachi from 2018 to 2019.
My Role
Recitation and Tajweed: Teaching proper pronunciation and rhythm, ensuring that students recite the Quran in accordance with its classical rules.
Memorization: Guiding students through structured memorization techniques, helping them achieve their memorization goals.
Interpretation (Tafsir): Explaining the context and meanings of Quranic verses to deepen students’ understanding and connection.
Interactive Learning: Utilizing multimedia resources and interactive methods to make learning engaging and effective.
Achievements
One of my most rewarding experiences was leading a successful Quran memorization program at the Al-Huda School in 2019, where 30 students completed their Hifz within two years. Additionally, I organized an interfaith Quranic study circle in 2021, which fostered greater understanding and dialogue between different community groups. These experiences not only highlighted my ability to motivate and guide students but also reinforced the importance of community involvement in Islamic education.
Community Involvement
I am actively involved in the broader community through volunteering at local mosques and participating in interfaith dialogue. Notably, I have been a volunteer educator at the Muslim Outreach Program in Karachi since 2018, providing Quranic education to underserved communities. These activities allow me to contribute to the growth of Islamic education beyond the classroom and to foster a greater appreciation of the Quran within the community.
Future Goals
Looking ahead, I aim to continue expanding my knowledge and teaching methods, exploring new ways to make Quranic education more accessible and impactful. I am particularly interested in developing online Quranic courses and integrating new educational technologies to reach a broader audience.
Conclusion
My journey as a Quran teacher is driven by a profound respect for the Quran and a commitment to sharing its teachings with others. I am dedicated to fostering an environment where students not only learn but also develop a lifelong love for the Quran.
