JOURNALISM ONLINE TRAINING
Hi I am Srinivasa Prasad. I am 62 years old. I have been an active English journalist in India for 35 years. It would be my pleasure to train journalists at all levels -- from students to working professionals -- in generating ideas, executing them and finally writing the stories in effective English.
MY CAREER SUMMARY
• I have worked for 35 years in Bangalore and Mumbai for some of India’s leading newspapers including The Times of India and Hindustan Times.
• Was a regular writer for Firstpost.com.
• I was part of the core team that re-launched the Bangalore edition of The Times of India in 1995, a successful effort that involved redefining news and finding new, engaging ways of writing it, while abandoning the old, staid journalism. Wrote True Lies, a weekly satire column for six years.
• At Hindustan Times, where I was the Bureau Chief (South) in the rank of an Associate Editor, my team contributed to the process of turning the boring, politics-obsessed paper into a modern daily with sharp writing. My last newspaper job, which I left in January 2010, was that of Senior Editor with DNA in Mumbai. My role in DNA was equivalent to that of a National Editor or a Commissioning Editor with the responsibility of generating story ideas and coordinating the paper’s correspondents in India and abroad.
• I wrote for Associated Press, the world’s leading news agency, an experience that significantly enhanced my learning.
• I taught the mechanics of writing and reporting at Manorama School of Communication, an English journalism school run by Malayala Manorama at Kottayam (Kerala, India), where the group has its corporate office.
* I have not had any great formal education. Experience has been my teacher, a good one.
