With over two decades of dedication to the classical art of Bharatanatyam, Shilpa Abhiram is pursuing her career as a performer and a teacher. As the Artistic Director of 'Ekatvam Kalaa Shaale'—a premier Bharatanatyam and Yoga Studio in Bengaluru—Shilpa passionately imparts her knowledge, guiding the next generation of dancers and yoga enthusiasts. She holds a Masters degree in Bharatanatyam and is trained in nattuvangam and Marga Karanas. Shilpa’s deep connection to the spiritual and physical aspects of dance is complemented by her expertise as a certified yoga instructor, making her approach to Bharatanatyam holistic and enriching.
Her dedication to the art form has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the “Kalemane Kalashri” from the Kumar Performing Arts Center, Mysuru, and the “Kalamani” award for her outstanding performance at Hosur Natyanjali.
She has performed as a soloist in prestigious dance festivals in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi in India and has travelled across different countries like Doha, Germany, Poland, France and Guadeloupe presenting her art.
In her classes she prepares progressive lesson plans to teach students of all skill levels. She introduces basic body movements to improve on the strength and flexibility and get a basic body awareness. The classes also include theory based on the Natyashastra and Abhinayadarpana. Training on Karanas is also available for senior students.
