This course aims to provide students and pharmacists with advanced knowledge and skills in clinical toxicology. This will cover the applied topics including;
1.Role of Pharmacist in treatment of poisoning and General management of poisoning & over dosage. Role and status of poison control center.
2. Antidotes and their mechanism of action: Heavy metal poisoning (i.e., lead, mercury, arsenic ) and use of Chelating agents and their role in poisoning: Dimercaprol, Calcium disodium edetate, Penicillamine, Desferrioxamine, Succimer, activated charcoal, N-acetyl cysteine.
3. Clinical toxicology (sign, symptom and treatment); Ethanol, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Flumazenil, Digitalis, Digoxin specific antibody, Salicylates, Narcotics, Nicotine, Paracetamol and Organophosphate poisoning.
4. Organ specific toxicity includes:
Toxic responses of blood
Toxic responses of Liver
Toxic responses of Heart
Toxic responses of Kidney
Toxic responses of Reproductive system
Drug induced Brain diseases.
