Konnichiwa! Watashi wa Megat desu 🙌🏻
I speak Malay as my first language and English as my second, and Japanese soon! I am in love with performing arts, namely singing, dancing, and acting (not in that order), so be ready to feast your eyes on my performance videos.

My dream is for students under me to be as comfortable in English as I want to be in Japanese someday (yes am not fluent in nihongo… yet)
I very much love listening to people sharing, and I want to hear (and read) your stories and interests… in English! And I will help you get there, if you haven’t already :)

I rarely use the material in the textbook when I was teaching in high school, as I intend to connect with students on a more personal level before I decide what kind of material that we should work with in order to have more relevance with said students.
As I am more towards the performing arts as well, I usually use drama, singing-songwriting, dancing, etc. in my lessons, and those have helped my students to remember lessons better. Literature, like shorts stories and novels are also a favourite of mine, because with stories, students can relate to the stories of their choosing more and in turn will aid in their reading and writing skills.

I am also what people call, a “spur of the moment” kind of teacher, so whatever that comes to mind in the moment, will be my handy resource. You’d better get ready because you’re in for oh a surprise 🤘🏼

Experience

  • English (Sep, 2022Jan, 2024) at Catholic High School, Petaling Jaya
Substitute teacher for about one year at the school teaching English for Form 1, 2, 3 and 4 classes throughout both morning and afternoon sessions.
I was also heavily involved with the school band as one of the teacher advisors although I was only a substitute teacher, and I also accompanied them on an educational trip to China in 2022.
Other than that, I also managed a few events in school throughout the year, as well as choreographed dances and taught students for said events.
  • English (Mar, 2019Jul, 2019) at UM Smart Tutor, Universiti Malaya
It was a volunteering program where I was an English language tutor for Form 5 students, and this was way before I graduated bachelor’s degree and became a real teacher. Most of the students were from underprivileged families so I was very lucky I was able to meet them and shared whatever knowledge I had then with them, and I’m glad there were happy faces by the end of each lessons as the lessons that the tutors had to create for them were not of the traditional classrooms like in schools.
