When I was a student, I always tried to closely observe my teachers; especially those whom I considered very effective. I, trying to adopt the same attributes, teach my subjects in a way that could catch the learners’ interest, simplify and clarify difficult topics and lead them through complex areas, and put knowledge into context so that its relevance is apparent. I consider myself as a facilitator of learning, rather than as an expert who simply conveys information to students. When planning my lesson or interacting with students, I am always aware of their different learning pace and style.
Personal contact with students is essential to my approach. I show genuine interest in their lives. It always helps me to create a healthy rapport with them, and makes the learning a whole lot easier. They need encouragement to approach their teachers, so I always make myself available for informal discussion and express my willingness to help them with their problems in learning. My experience as a teacher is greatly enriched by this contact with students. I also try to lead by example; if I want them to be on time then I have to be most punctual.
Being a language teacher, I think I have the ability to inspire confidence in my students so that they feel comfortable expressing themselves regardless of their level of proficiency. Learners are often grateful to be in an environment where they consider themselves part of a family, where relationships are based on mutual respect, and where everybody's ideas are listened to and discussed equally. At the same time of course, I make sure to be organized, accessible, serious, and flexible. Most importantly, I do not always confine myself to textbook I strive to find innovative ways of teaching that address the diverse needs of all of my students. In addition to my integration of technology into the curriculum, I offer a variety of approaches to the study of English.
Overall, I believe in making myself not so much an expert in my profession, but a partner in learning.
