Students fail to pass because teachers are not able to prepare the students to adopt the right strategy to finish the paper, rather they focus on curriculum, resulting in the student not completing the exam or performing as he should have even though he knows the whole curriculum. I tend to focus on just that. I would explain my teaching style to be as if I am student who is learning the same subject, what problems could I have faced, I explain and work on those problems with my students.
