Chemistry is basic science which enables us to think about chemical nature of materials around us. Understanding the chemistry would be difficult task for students especially when the teacher is not delivering the lecture with latest audio visual aids and methodology suitable for their particular topics of lectures. Being a chemistry teacher it is my responsibility to deliver my best to students which would enable them to understand the subject.
Nowadays learning chemistry is not difficult due to innovation in teaching. I prefer to teach the student by building the interest of the students through latest teaching methods and tools. White/black boards, multimedia projector, assignments, quiz sessions and practical demonstration in laboratory are used in my teaching practice. Moreover, being a researcher in the field of chemistry also demands from me to impart basic practical skills which are necessary for the students studying chemistry. As a researcher, I guide the students in their research work such as in literature survey, scientific writings tasks and research thesis.
I have experienced that students sometime need practical demonstration of certain topics which we teach for example acid and alkali reactions always results in salt formation and neutral pH of the reaction mixture. So, in the lab it can be concluded whether the reaction is complete or not by measuring the pH. Similarly use of videos for teaching is nowadays very popular means of delivering useful information to the students. Sometimes, I prefer to use short videos related to my lectures to teach the students for example shapes of the crystalline materials could be explained through it.
Additionally, I like to participate in the students events such as sports gala, musical parties and cultural events in an order to encourage their participation in these activities which are necessary for their all round development. I personally feels that students should be given enough opportunities to change their routine life after regular intervals. I have a strong believe that leaning couldn’t be achieved effectively if we ignore such kind of activities mentioned above. Therefore, teaching chemistry is a difficult task but I can develop interest of the students by using my approach.
