Warm welcome to the readers!!
I would like to introduce myself- Vidwan Thrishur K Sudev and my mission is to teach the nuances of carnatic music and upgrade people who are really interested to pursue carnatic music especially in the percussion art and rhythm patterns
Even though if you are just a common listener, some additional techniques or information in this core can helps you to enhance your listening skills and can motivate your inner energy - as you know "Music is the language of your soul".
My usual way of teaching is as follows:
1. A brief introduction to Carnatic music is given initially to students in order to understand what is
the importance of our Indian classical/traditional Carnatic music and how our internal energy
variations are observed and how mindfulness is improved on hearing to them.
2. Teaching the basic concepts of Mridangam and its importance in embellishing a concert, like
what to play, what not to play, when to play and how to play for keerthanais in a concert so that
better ambience is created among the listeners and audience.
3. Initial classes start with Sooladhi saptha thalams with 5 nadai variations which comes to a total of
35 thalam with Mohras and Korvais - which acts as a good basement for building your skills
further.
4. Creation of new korvais and sollkattu for different thalams & rhythm patterns that are common
in concert and setting up of " Thaniyavarthanam" models, as per the current trend in carnatic
music to look attractive & energetic for the audience while listening.
5. Basics of Carnatic music songs especially their rhythmic patterns and tradition on how to
approach varnams, krithis, padams and thillanas.
