Microbiology is the most feared subject during MBBS and it's mostly because students fail to make a clinical co-relation and they can't understand how to approach the subject. I did my MD in microbiology from Kasturba medical College Manipal, which is one of the most premier institutes in the country. From day 1 my training consisted of approaching the subject from a clinical point of view which made me realise that this subject is not restricted to the walls of a laboratory. So, when I teach my students I make sure that they understand the concept behind why are they being taught the topics with a clinical co-relation of it and at points where it's required I like to use mnemonics to make it easier. I mostly like to teach from my own personal experience of working as a clinical microbiologist and it helps both MBBS and MD students as in the PG entrance exams now the questions are coming with a clinical approach and for postgraduate training it helps them understand the importance of each sample which we encounter.
