I am a 23 year old Kathak dancer based in Delhi,India. I started learning at the age of 6 under the guidance of Ms. Gauri Diwakar and continue to do so. I have a diploma in Kathak and I have performed on various platforms as well as festivals organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture India, Sangeet Natak Akademi etc. I also joined brands Raw Mango, Shri Paramani Jewels as a Dancer for their campaigns. I have been teaching Kathak to young students at Gauri Diwakar Sanskriti Foundation- Sarvtra Nrityam for 6 years now.
Over the years I have tried to understand dance from a students perspective as well as a teachers perspective which has taught me to look at movements and emotions differently. I have been trained to understand the importance to incorporate all aspects of my life in dancing. How to understand emotions from real life situations and portray them in a way that it resonates with the audience. I believe that learning never ceases. Everyday brings new opportunities to learn and adapt and with every student I get to understand something new about my own practice.
My teaching style involves going back and forth with the students, in the form of asking them questions, making sure there are able to understand what I am trying to teach and letting them ask me question repetitively till they are sure of what we are doing. I also encourage them to do homework which usually involves exploring and coming up with stories and steps. I also include some expression building exercises to help students understand emotions in real life and reflect them in their dance.
I believe no two students are same and therefore understanding them is very important for me, to cater them better.

    I started teaching Kathak at the age of 17 to beginner students at Gauri Diwakar Sanskrit Foundation (GDSF) under the guidance of my Guru MS. Gauri Diwakar. During covid-19 we shifted to Online mode for more than a year which honed me to become an ambidextrous dancer. I have experience with students from the age of 5 to 45 years old. Over the years I have grown to love teaching and simultaneously exploring & learning through the process. I am also a performer and I have performed in different productions organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture (India) etc. I continue to learn under my Guru as I believe learning never stops.
