Hi! I’m John Matthew Lim a graduate BS Pharmacy from the University of Santo Tomas and currently taking up Medicine. I offer tutoring services for grade school and high school Science, Math, and English. I also cater to those who are aiming to take the NMAT. With 2 years of experience as a tutor, I’ve learned that each student learns differently, so I tailor fit my teaching style per person.
I have had experience teaching both in a classroom setting and in one-on-one sessions. Personally, I prefer the one-on-one sessions since I can focus on the student's needs and can personalize the learning experience. When students ask questions, it shows that they are listening and are eager to learn, which is why when I teach, I encourage questions of any kind.
For my teaching style, I start with an outline of the topics so that the student has an idea of what to expect. This also serves as the learning goals for the session. Then I go through the relevant principles of the topic, focusing on explaining ideas and patterns rather than memorization. After the discussion, I summarize what we've discussed into learning pearls, and go back to the learning goals to see if we've achieved them. I finish with a sample quiz, and of course I ask if there's anything that needs clarifying.

Instructor (Oct, 2019

I taught students of various grade levels from grade 3 to grade 12 in various subjects such as math, chemistry, physics, and even college level organic chemistry. Each session was a one-on-one with the student, and since this was prior to pandemic, I would meet the student in their preferred setting. The duration of each tutoring session was dependent on the student and parent.

I was an NMAT instructor teaching the subjects Quantitative, Chemistry, and Visual Acuity to a class of 40-50 students for 4hours per session. I believe that I am qualified to teach NMAT, having scored a 99+ percentile in the March 2018 NMAT with special mention of a score of 800 in visual acuity (perfect score).
