I teach student-centered classes; discussions are part of carrying everyone alone. At the end of every class session, I believe in summarizing the topic covered and giving related assignment/homework. The homework helps in assessing the comprehension of students. It is my belief that tedious assignments do not improve comprehension and only serve to discourage students. Therefore, my assignments are not reasonably tedious and engaging.
Carrying all students along is part of my strategy; I always show the different approaches to solving mathematics problems so that if a student does not understand one approach he/she can use the other approach(es). My strategy involves the classification of mathematics into relatively easy and difficult. I do not rush through difficult mathematical topics. Blending the topics also helps show my students that they can all do it; and use the strategy as motivation.
