I’m Maria Aslam, a dedicated professional with a BDS degree. After graduating and completing my house job, I embarked on a fulfilling journey in the field of dentistry. I began my career as a demonstrator at Islam Dental College in Sialkot, where I honed my skills for 1.7 months.

My passion for dentistry led me to pursue further specialization, and I embarked on a challenging path as a FCPS Part 2 post-graduate resident in the Orthodontics department at Islamic International Dental Hospital in Islamabad. I dedicated four years to this demanding role, acquiring invaluable expertise in orthodontics.

Additionally, I returned to Islamic International Dental Hospital, this time as a demonstrator in the Oral Biology department. Here, I educate and mentor first and second-year students, covering essential topics such as oral anatomy, histology, and embryology. My teaching methods include skill labs, lectures, small group discussions (SGDs), directed self-learning (DSLs), problem-based learning (PBLs), and the creation of MCQs. I also take pride in conducting formative and professional exams, ensuring the comprehensive development of future dental professionals.

    As a Demonstrator in the Oral Biology Department, I play a crucial role in the education and development of first and second-year students in the field of oral anatomy, histology, and embryology. My responsibilities encompass a range of teaching, assessment, and educational support activities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Teaching:
    Conduct lectures, skill labs, and small group discussions (SGDs) to deliver comprehensive instruction on oral anatomy, histology, and embryology.

    Clinical training: I spent a significant amount of time working in a clinical setting, where I gained hands-on experience performing orthodontic procedures under the guidance of experienced orthodontists. I was responsible for conducting patient assessments, creating treatment plans, and performing a variety of orthodontic procedures.
    Research and academic activities: In addition to clinical training, I was involved in research and academic activities including conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, and contributing to the development of new techniques and treatments.
    Continuing education: I was expected to stay up-to-date with the latest advances in the field of orthodontics including attending conferences and seminars, reading professional journals, and participating in other continuing education activities to enhance my knowledge and skills.
    Teaching and mentoring: I was also responsible to mentor and teach dental students or trainees who are learning the practice of orthodontics including providing hands-on instruction, conducting lectures and seminars, and offering feedback and critique to help students improve their skills.
