Why is it easier to pull an object then to push an object across a rough surface?
Across a rough surface, when an object is pulled at an angle, the effective Normal force from the ground decreases, since the vertical component of the applied force supports the weight of the object Due to the decrease in Normal force, the friction force acting on the object from rough surface also decreases which result in easier movement of the object across the floor while in case of pushing of an object, the vertical component of the applied force increases the effective weight to be supported by the rough surface due to which the Normal increases and friction force increases.Hence, it becomes difficult to push the object across rough surface.
