Intro I am a passionate English tutor with 5 years of intensive 1 on 1 tutoring experience. I attended elementary through college in America and am a native speaker. I tought English to students from age 10 to 60, ranging from students to business owners. Coming from an Asian background, I have a strong grasp on how to perfect English pronunciation and spoken English fluidity for Asian students. For example, I’ve found certain verbal exercises are very useful for practicing “r” and “l” sounds. I’ve also built curriculums around the student’s required needs, focusing on SATs, ACTs, TOEFEL, business projects, or school textbooks. I am a passionate and capable teacher and am heavily invested in the growth of the student’s English proficiency.
Teaching method For speaking courses, I separate classes into pronunciation and spoken expression. To improve pronunciation, I use verbal exercises that focus on the student’s weakness. For spoken expression, I encourage students to talk freely and if there is something they cannot say in English, I will explain how to put together such a sentence. For curriculum courses, I will focus on the student’s needs for a certain test or subject, be it standardized tests, business projects, or school textbooks.

Experience
English tutor (Jun, 2014–Jun, 2018) at 5 years personal English tutor
After returning to Korea due to financial reasons, I spent 5 years privately tutoring English to students ranging from elementary students to business owners. I tutored an average of 40 hours per week for 5 years. I personally built 6-month to 1-year curriculums, tailored to each student, to fit their needs and preferences, focusing on grammar, reading comprehension, writing, and speaking. For grade school students, whom I tutored the most, I planned their tutoring course around their school textbooks and therefore have a firm grasp of academic English curriculums. I also have a proven track record of successfully preparing students for the SATs to prepare them for their futures abroad.
Over 5 years of tutoring, I took pride in creating significant improvements in English pronunciation for students. I have a set of verbal exercises that I have accrued that work excellently especially for Asian students. As I myself am coming from an Asian background, I understand how to use certain native language sounds to imitate, and later mimic English sounds. As students improve in pronunciation, they become more confident in their speaking ability. As their English speaking becomes more fluid, I focus more on sentence structure building and expression.
As for students who require a more specific course structured around a certain textbook, project, or aspect of English such as reading comprehension or writing, I have also built curriculums for students to fit their needs. I’ve prepared students for the SATs, their business projects, and school courses, and therefore have a strong grasp on academic English teaching methodologies.
