For an English teacher teaching for approximately 6 years now, I deem a thorough and meticulous need analysis of my students to be the utmost priority even before starting the teaching and learning process. Pakistani ESL (English as a Second language) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students almost all the times face problems in achieving communicative competence because of the artificial classroom design and less opportunities for real life communication in English language. Even though Pakistani institutes ultimate focus is on teaching parts of speech, grammatical structures and vocabulary but still students performance in these areas falls short of the required yard stick. The problem clearly lies in teaching methodology. Teaching methodology can either sail or sink your ship. That is why, I always make sure that my teaching methodology is the one that brings out the best in my students rather than totally making them go berserk with the influx of information going above their heads.
