I am a professor of pharmacology of the University of Ibadan, the first and the best university in Nigeria. I got my extensive trainings in both theoretical and experimental pharmacology from the University of Lagos. I am currently involved in the teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
I have taught various aspects of pharmacology for over 20 years now to medical, pharmacy, nursing, and physiotherapy undergraduate students as well as postgraduate students of Pharmacology and physiology. Over the years, my students always celebrate me as an outstanding lecturer as I made the subject looks simple and easy for them to comprehend. Most of the medical students in particularly always answer my questions and students in other programmes also excel in courses I taught them. There is no dull moment in my lecture sessions as I always make my lectures highly interactive and participatory, and interesting that often made some masters' students to join my lectures even though they did not register for the course.
Another great secret to my success as an experienced teacher is that I always identify weak students in my class based on their background and give more attention to them with commendations for any little efforts from such students. I also demonstrate high level of patience and I have learnt to be friendly and correct students with practical life stories instead of engaging them directly. To me, teaching is like a hobby to be enjoyed, bringing experimental pharmacology into theoretical pharmacology.
I have supervised several B. Pharmacy undergraduate, 25 postgraduate masters and nine PhD students. I am currently supervising two masters and three PhD students. I also mentor younger colleagues within Nigeria and outside Nigeria. I hosted junior scientists for their PhD research work in my laboratory. Most of my postgraduate students are lecturers in various Institutions in Nigeria and outside Nigeria, with one of them in the University of Oxford and another in the University of Alabama, USA. I have published over 100 articles in high rated scientific journals as served as reviewer to several international journals including European Journal of Pharmacology and Brain Research Bulletin.
