Honestly, English was my 2nd language until end of school. As soon as I joined my Engineering, life turned. Everything (spoken, written, Viva was in English. It was even severe during my MBA). By that time I could comfortably communicate in English. However, all of my jobs were abroad for 30 years (USA, UK, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Indonesia) where I picked up the accent, took part fearlessly in public speaking and more. I learnt the technique about speaking English like a native. Very easy like drinking a glass of water.
How did you learnt to be fluent in your mother tongue? Not by writing, learning grammer, tenses etc. You used listening skill, tried to imitate the speakers around, you made mistakes were corrected immediately. Thereafter you have started to build confidence. You started to practice by repeating the same words or sentences again and again. You became a perfect speaker by the age of 5 or 6 when you entered school.
The same thing goes here. A teacher who has learnt it hands on will guide you smoothly to master it.
