I'd like to take a moment to share my teaching approach, which is built on the foundation of three vital elements: the knowledge of Sawar, the knowledge of Raga, the knowledge of the body, coupled with Riyaz, self-awareness, and a strong philosophical perspective.Sawar, the heart of each musical note, is the starting point of our musical journey. Guiding students to grasp the intricacies of Sawar empowers them to shape music with intention and emotion. It's a process of discovering how sound can be molded into melodies that touch the soul. Understanding Raga is equally essential. A Raga isn't merely a sequence of notes; it's a living, breathing entity with its own emotional realm. By delving into the nuances of different ragas, students learn to communicate stories, feelings, and experiences through their music, bridging the gap between tradition and personal expression. The body, often overlooked, is a vital instrument in the art of music. Teaching students about their body's role—how breath, posture, and movement impact their playing—enhances their musical prowess. By aligning their physicality with their emotions, students can weave music that's not only technically proficient but also deeply resonant. Integrating Riyaz, the dedicated practice of music, is crucial. It's through Riyaz that students refine their skills, master techniques, and internalize musical concepts. Regular practice cultivates discipline and nurtures a strong work ethic, which are essential traits for both musical growth and life in general. Self-awareness, the ability to understand one's emotions and motivations, is another cornerstone. Guiding students to explore their inner landscapes deepens their connection with the music they create. Self-awareness empowers them to infuse their music with authenticity and vulnerability, making their performances truly compelling. Finally, a strong philosophical perspective underpins my teaching. I believe in nurturing not just musicians but well-rounded individuals who appreciate the cultural and emotional dimensions of music. By instilling a love for learning, encouraging curiosity, and fostering a growth mindset, I aim to prepare students for a lifetime of musical exploration. In my classroom, these elements harmonize. Students not only learn the technicalities but also gain insights into the holistic nature of music. I'm not just teaching music; I'm guiding them to become lifelong learners, confident performers, and thoughtful interpreters of music's universal language.
