In general success is guaranteed if any person plans properly and toils hard to reach the goal. But the hard work may also fail if the techniques of learning are not proper ( which always depends on the cognitive abilities). Here comes the role of a mentor, which our scriptures describe as "Guru." Arjuna got the right mentor at the right age, and hence became famous. Alexander the great also got a very good mentor in Aristotle.

Hence, choose the right mentor to reach the goal at the right time. Don't shy to ask questions wherever you feel, you cannot understand the points. And then one has to toil hard towards the goal.
