In my experience, tutoring for test preparation tends to be more goal-oriented and standardized where I'm leading lessons and reviewing material with a focus on helping the student to pass the test. In general tutoring, the goal may be to help the student improve their grades or get into a more advanced course, which can make lessons vary more widely. Test-prep tutoring also makes assessing students easier because I can provide them with approved study questions and practice exams that mimic the actual test. Plus, we can calculate the exam results right after the student finishes and see what progress has been made and where the student still needs to improve.

I then go over the agenda for the session so that they know what to expect. I also typically give them a brief quiz to go over the previous sessions' topics and see what they remember and or where they may need additional work. After the review, I try to connect how those previous topics relate to what we're going over in the current session. I go through the lesson, which typically involves the student reading material aloud and discussing the prompts with me. Finally, I leave at least five minutes at the end of the session for any additional questions about the material."
