I have taught Chemistry at the BS, MS and PhD levels. In conducting a class, I start off with introductions and presentation of the content of the course offered and how much time is required per topic. The references, consultation hours, important policies on how to conduct the class are given. Students are encouraged to read prior to a tutorial session so that there will be effective interaction during the meeting. A typical tutorial session will consist of a 15-minute powerpoint presentation followed by question and answer portion for another 15 minutes and a short quiz with immediate feedbacking.
To enhance the sessions, guide questions will be given, to be answered for an appropriate time, and discussions will follow. Tips are given on how to prepare for an exam such as practicing on both objective and problem solving type of questions. After the exam the results are given to the student and the answers are discussed/explained further. Tips on how the student could approach a similar question in the next exam may be presented. Similar questions given in the exam are displayed, allowing the students to answer and followed by a discussion. Tips of how to ace an exam are given and due recognition will be given for a good performance after an exam. Most importantly, i believe that a short prayer before and after the session will make the session fruitful and successful.
