Cell and molecular biology, structural biology, experimental concepts.

I am very open and informal to students. Whenever students have doubts and questions, I try to be on the same perspective as him/her so that I properly help and clear everything. Better to ask more questions (whatever they may be) than to leave with doubts.

Looking forward to connect with students who are desiring to learn the basic concept of cell and its structure; the structure, function and properties of the molecules within the cell (Proteins, DNA, RNA, etc.); various cell, molecular, and structural biology techniques.

Areas of expertise: biochemistry, protein-protein interaction, multi-protein complexes and how to study them, cloning, protein expression, protein chromatography, structural biology.

I have several years of experience supervising bachelor, master and internship students in their individual projects belonging to the areas mentioned above.

Bachelor and Master level students can have great difficulty understanding the rationale/reasoning behind a scientific project and the idea behind the experimental strategy. I have helped many students with these concepts and clear their doubts.

Working in a scientific lab also requires a great deal of quantitative thinking for every step of an experiment. I have helped students in this regard.

Results from either one's own experiments or in a scientific paper one might be reading, needs proper evaluation and interpretation. I have helped students in this respect, as well as in appropriate analysis and presentation of their own data.

In addition, I have also helped students in drafting of project reports and thesis, make corrections, and with evaluation of final reports and grading.

Under my supervision, several students successfully completed their thesis and internship projects. Most importantly, results from their work were crucial for the furtherance of ongoing work in our research group.

Further, especially for molecular and structural biology students, I have helped them choose the right courses and projects that will suit their career goals. In many cases, giving students an overview of the experimental techniques in a given project, helped them to make the right decision.

Few words about my research work: I investigated the biochemical and structural properties of a group of cellular proteins (called the "SMN complex") implicated in the neurodegenerative disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Inside the cells of an healthy individual, this group of proteins (or the SMN complex) physically interact with each other in a specific manner and function as a molecular machine to carryout crucial cellular tasks. But, inside the cells of a person carrying specific genetic mutations/mistakes, proteins of the SMN complex fail to function normally, which then leads to the SMA disease. The goal of my research work was to perform biochemical and structural analysis on the proteins of the SMN complex and understand exactly how they interact with each other, what their structures and properties are, and how genetic mutations/mistakes affect their structure and function.

Experience

  • PhD researcher (Apr, 2014Mar, 2020) at University of Wuerzburg Germany
As a doctoral researcher, one of my responsibilities was to supervise student projects. I have supervised bachelor, masters, and internship students in their individual thesis projects. There were primarily 3 major phases of my supervision work: a) One-on-one discussion on the topic of research, theoretical concepts, rationale of the project, and experimental concepts and strategy; b) giving training in lab work and rigorous exercise in quantitative thinking; c) help students with critical evaluation of data, appropriate data interpretations, and presentation of results.

Under my supervision, several students successfully completed their thesis and internship projects. Most importantly, results from their work were crucial for the furtherance of ongoing work in our research group.

In addition, I have also helped students in drafting of project reports and thesis, make corrections, and with evaluation of final reports and grading.

Finally, especially for molecular and structural biology students, I have helped them choose the right courses and projects that will suit their career goals. In many cases, giving students an overview of the experimental techniques in a given project, helped them to make the right decision.

Education

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Natural Sciences (Apr, 2014May, 2021) from University of Wuerzburg Germany
  • Master of Science (Aug, 2011Oct, 2014) from University of Oulu, FInland
  • Bachelor of Technology (Jun, 2006Jul, 2010) from SRM UNIVERSITY, Chennai

Fee details

    300800/hour (US$3.579.51/hour)

Teaching of basic concepts would generally cost less. For example, if variety of subjects are to be covered within an hour or two, detailed concepts cannot be covered within that time frame. On the other hand, if detail concepts have to be taught, a single subject might need several 1 hour sessions and more work. This would cost a bit higher.
