I am teacher with 9 years of experience in teaching Philosophy in a formal set-up. I have also been a tutor/language coach for English and for French in France. I have had a lot of experience teaching learners of different ages. I believe that in order to be an effective teacher, one must have a good foundational knowledge of the subject matter, one must have the ability to articulate and communicate this said knowledge to a learner, and one must have a good understanding of how the learner perceive the subject matter. For me, a good teacher should motivate the learner by enhancing his/her strengths, but also, by helping address the difficulties the learner might find in the subject matter. A good teacher must also be organized, and well-prepared, but also compassionate and empathic. I believe that having a good structure when teaching is important, but also, the ability to listen to the learner's needs and objectives are also indispensable. These are the qualities I always try to bring into the table when teaching. I also believe in giving the learner extensive notes so that he/she can review the lessons we have talked about. I will also patiently help the learner practice, and help him/her retain certain necessary concepts.
