As the Imam of the Masjid and Head of the Quran Department at Cambridge Islamic School and Jamia Sayeda Zainab, your role is integral to providing spiritual guidance, leading congregational prayers, and overseeing Quranic studies within the institution. The following job description outlines the primary responsibilities and qualifications required for this position:
1. Spiritual Leadership:
- Lead congregational prayers (including daily prayers, Jumu'ah, Taraweeh, and Eid prayers).
- Deliver sermons (khutbahs) on Fridays and other occasions, addressing relevant religious, social, and moral issues.
- Provide counseling and guidance to individuals seeking advice on personal, family, or community matters in accordance with Islamic teachings.
- Conduct religious ceremonies (e.g., Nikah, funeral prayers) and offer support during significant life events.
2. Quran Department Leadership:
- Oversee and manage the Quran Department, ensuring smooth operations and effective implementation of Quranic studies.
- Develop and update curriculum for Quranic studies, incorporating Tajweed (Quranic recitation rules), Tafsir (interpretation), Hifz (memorization), and understanding of Quranic concepts.
- Train and supervise Quran teachers, providing guidance on teaching methods, resources, and assessment techniques.
- Monitor the progress of students, arrange assessments, and maintain accurate records of each student's performance.
- Implement strategies to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes in Quranic studies.
3. Community Outreach and Engagement:
- Foster positive relationships with the local community, engaging in outreach activities and initiatives that promote understanding, tolerance, and unity among community members.
- Organize and lead educational programs, workshops, and seminars on various aspects of Islam and Quranic studies.
- Act as a liaison between the Masjid and other organizations, facilitating collaborations and partnerships that benefit the community.
- Participate in interfaith dialogues, promoting dialogue, peace, and mutual respect among diverse religious groups.
Qualifications:
- Hold a relevant degree in Islamic Studies, Arabic, or a related field; additional certifications in Quranic studies are highly desirable.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Islamic theology, Quranic sciences, Hadith, and Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh).
- Proficient in Quran recitation with excellent Tajweed skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate Islamic teachings and concepts to diverse audiences, including children, youth, and adults.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage the Quran Department effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with community members, parents, and students.
- Fluency in English is essential, while proficiency in Arabic and other languages spoken by the community is beneficial.
