Sayan Kabiraj was born into a family with a deep-rooted love for music. He was initiated into music by his father, Sri Bidhan Chandra Kabiraj and his elder sister Smt. Debalina kabiraj at the age of 8 .

Sayan began his talim under the distinguished guidance of Pt. Sandip Bhattacharjee for 10 years, He is an ex senior Scholar of ITC. His Guru is Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, sons and disciples of the late legendary Sarangi Maestro Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan.

Sayan was trained under the Kirana Gharana's genuine Guru shishya parampara style .

Sayan has a Bachelor's degree in classical music from Calcutta University ( Bengal Music College ) in Kolkata, where he received First Class Second position. Now he is Post Graduate in Classical Music Khayal from Calcutta University with 83.5% .
