I have taught learners with special needs ranging from down syndrome, autism and learning disabilities. I have helped them by modifying and adapting the lessons to cater for their learning needs. I have participated in assessing and placing learners with special needs . I'm currently working with a student with down syndrome who is in kindergarten . What has worked greatly for me and my learner enjoys too is, using a lot of visuals in my lessons and this includes the daily routine too. I use pictures because my learner enjoys lessons with pictures. Learners with special needs learn best when pictures are incorporated in their lessons .I use pictures in my lessons and this really motivates learners. I use simple and direct instructions for my learners to understand. I also give my learners a chance to make choices hence developing communication skills. I give breaks in between the lessons because learners with special needs tend to get bored and tired easily due to a lot of teaching contents and sitting down for a long time. What makes me a great teacher is the fact that I love my career, I.love kids and kids love me too. I find it fun to spend my time with my learners.
