I believe that students learn better by doing and so I will challenge students to apply their own independent thinking to Math problems or even new concepts. I will guide students to the correct procedure based on what they have shared. I encourage frequent practice and limited use of calculators as it is important for students to be engaged in productive struggle which will enable them to develop their own comfortable way to approach problems.

It is very important that students are taught from their level and not at the level they are expected to be because they need to learn prerequisites before they can take on most topics. Therefore, learning the foundational skills of the four basic operations is ideal for students' success, which I strongly believe an emphasis must be placed on.

Students like to be able to relate to Math problems so I normally create situations for students to see how these different topics are applicable in real life. Students are encouraged to constantly express their thinking and the strategy they use as this repetition and reasoning skills are key in understanding Math concepts.
