I learned Spanish, and French in school.
However, I do not speak either fluently.
I sometimes wonder why, despite years of study (about three years for Spanish in both High School and College; two years for French in Junior High.)
Looking back, I wonder why..
Learning a language is learning a culture- because language is culture.
Sharing aspect of both the target language (German) and the mother tongue makes learning the target language easier, more accessible.
Stimulating this appreciation is crucial in learning a foreign language and once this is stoked, learning the language becomes easier to learn because it becomes less "fremd" or foreign!
