Looking back to my journey now, I can proudly say that I have been Ms. Liliek’s student
since Class 1 of Primary School all the way to the first year of University!
Her patient and caring approach to teaching became a motivation for me to keep
persevering even when the piano pieces were difficult. Teaching me throughout my
progression in the ABRSM Piano courses up to ABRSM Grade 7 in practical piano and
Grade 5 in piano theory, she has provided me with a steady, but thorough understanding of
the course material, whether it be practical or theory. Ms. Liliek tailors her teachings to the
needs of the students, making sure her students feel confident and enjoy whatever pieces
they play. Especially as I progressed through higher grades, I have always thought that her
eye for detail and attention she places in making sure the way I perform pieces are polished,
complete with the right articulation, dynamics, and expression have impacted the way I play
the piano for the better. I will always remember the days where we would repeat a few
phrases multiple times to make sure they convey the right feeling and message the song is
trying to express to listeners! But the results certainly did not betray the effort. She not only
informs students of how we can improve on our skills, but also opens up the space for
students to express their opinions and ideas to make the piece unique to ourselves.
Now also teaching my younger sister, I cannot thank her enough for the many years of my
piano learning, and the growth I have experienced throughout this time.
