Biography
Dr. Saif Ullah Afridi has recently completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine with an Immunology specialization (2015) from one of the renowned Institutes of Pakistan, the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Pakistan. Then he started his first scientific career as Assistant Professor at the Centre for Advanced Drug Research (CADR), COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Abbottabad, Abbottabad-22060, Pakistan (May 2016-August 2017) followed by working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), The University of Lahore-Islamabad Campus (September 2017-2018). Recently, he completed his Postdoc Research training (June 2018-2021) in Cancer Immunology & infections at the Institute Pasteur of Shanghai – Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPS-CAS) & Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center (GWCMC), Joint Research Center for Infection and Immunity, Shanghai China. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor & Head of Department at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Science & Information Technology (UIT), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan (May 2022-up until now).
Dr. Afridi has expertise in immune system regulation and vaccine development for their therapeutic applications at the translational level. He is interested to study the key features in the immune system regulation by targeting Regulatory T cells to overcome autoimmunity during immune pathological conditions. Furthermore, he vested interest to investigate the role of antigen-specific T-cell activation in the specific immune response. Currently, he is working on Cancer Immune Profiling in hospitalized Ovarian Cancer and Hepatic Carcinoma patients at the translation level. On the other side, his newly identified Small Molecules potentially accelerated antigen-specific immune response by targeting MHC class II molecules and Regulatory T cells ex-vivo expansion-based immunotherapy to cure immune pathological conditions, which will create a new window for improving health care.
To accomplish his key objectives as the best Investigator and bonafide University Professor Dr. Afridi has published good research articles in the field of Drug Discovery, Immune System Regulation, Vaccines Development, Biomarkers, Pathways Analysis, Cancer, and related Immune Pathological Conditions. i.e, Nature Cell Discovery (I.F = 38+), Journal of Hazardous Materials (I.F = 14+) and Immunological Reviews (I.F = 10+) etc. He was nominated for HEC Best Research Paper and Best Young Researcher awards (2015/2016) and received the COMSATS Research Productivity Awards 2017. Furthermore, recently (January 2018), he win a Nature Web base open merit International Postdoctoral Position in “Category A” with Rs. 17 million (75000$) research funds for two years. Besides it more recently (August 2018) he also win one outstanding young scientist International Research Project (NSFC) award of Rs. 13 million (400,000 ¥) for two years and tagged his name as the first IPS-GWCMC Postdoc Research Fellow Project winner out of 250 researchers including 27 postdocs. In this recognition, he was awarded the Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center award certificate with a cash prize on September 17, 2018. Besides it more recently (March 2019) he win one more Excellent International Young Postdoctoral Scientist award of 22.7 million (600,000 ¥) for two years from the Office of China Postdoctoral Council (OCPC) and tagged his name in the top 300 selected Postdoctoral Research Fellow of OCPC-2018. In continuation, as the first Pakistani young Scientists he wins the BioMed X GmbH-Germany Travel Grants (including all expenses) for Out-standing Early-career Scientists Boot Camp Project Presentation Award, March 8-12, 2021 (Heidelberg, Germany) and tagged his name in the top 10 selected Postdoctoral Research Proposal out of 337 applications from 69 countries.
He has built these key skills after years of experience in research, evaluation, and teaching both in his pregraduate and postgraduate contexts.
