Hello Students and Families! Come join me in our classroom filled with laughter, literacy, learning, and most of all, LOVE!
I am Teacher Darcie, and I am from Illinois in the United States. I have been teaching quite some time, both as an online teacher and as an in-person teacher. This experience, coupled with continuing education, allows me to provide optimal, individualized lessons that meet the needs of today's beginning English language learners.
I began my teaching career in Monmouth-Roseville Public School District 238 where I taught as a primary SC classroom teacher, an ESL primary SC classroom teacher, and as a Literacy Interventionist for 28 years. After retiring early to care for a family member, I began my career as an online ELL literacy teacher working with students ranging in ages 3-16. I have been teaching as a full time, online literacy teacher for over four years and have had the blessing of teaching students from all over the world!
My educational achievements include obtaining a B.S. in Elementary Education with a Minor in Literacy (State Certified 03 grades K-8), a Master's degree as a Literacy Specialist, National Board as a Literacy Specialist, and an ELL Endorsement with specialization in teaching beginning English language learners. In addition, I am both TEFL and TESOL certified.
My knowledge of best practices and data driven approaches in teaching beginning English language learners allows me to provide necessary literacy skills, concepts, and strategies that with patience, practice, and positivity will enable students to become independent, risk-taking, self-confident, critical thinkers.
I strive to provide engaging, interactive, fun-filled, individualized lessons which expand and broaden a students' background knowledge, understanding of concepts and correlating terms, build and deepen vocabulary acquisition, and guide and sharpen English grammar and pronunciation. Every lesson encompasses listening, reading, speaking, and writing providing the foundation and stepping stones for language acquisition.
My goal with each student I have taught, teach, or will teach is that he or she will become a life long lover of literacy.
I welcome the opportunity to work with your special child and get to know him or her on an individual basis. Teaching is not what I do, it is who I am.
