Hello there
We know skills are transferrable. Skills we learn in something can sometimes help in something else. So, we learned to make a clenched fist, we learned to hold something, we learned to pick up things. These simple skills then transferred into other things like throwing a ball or holding and using a spoon. In language, we use skills that transfer from one skill area to another. Learning how to spell a word can help you correctly pronounce a word. Learning how to pronounce a word will help you strengthen your listening skills and so you will be able to identify the word in conversation. When skills transfer, a great deal of work can be done effortlessly. The battle of learning how to pronounce a word can become so much easier if you already know how to write it and read it. Holding and using a spoon would be impossible if we did not know how to make a fist or pick up things. I am going to tell you something you may not already know. Teaching English or teaching anything takes a lot of patients. It takes a lot of determination. It takes a lot of time. It takes a lot of energy. Teaching takes a lot from you to do effectively. Any task that you want to do will need attention and energy. How much attention and energy you put into the task at hand will determine the outcome. With enough attention and energy, any door will open for you. Unlike many teachers on this platform, I meditate. Meditation is something you can do, or meditative can be who you are. You can choose to meditate once a week. You can choose to visit meditation like many people would their local gym. You can choose to become meditative. You can transform your very life by using meditation as a tool. The skills meditation teach are transferable. Only if you give meditation enough energy and attention will it transform your very life and give you these wonderful skills that you can use in your everyday life when learning English, at work, with your family, with your friends, playing a sport, cooking a dish, baking a cake, talking to a friend, the list is endless. If you visit the gym once a week, it will do nothing for you. If you choose to meditate once a week, it will do nothing for you. If you practice your English once a week, it will do nothing for you. The skills you could develop from either activity will not come to mature. You will have to give enough attention and energy to see the benefits. Once a week is not enough. I meditate every day. I was to become a monk. I never went through with it. The skills I have fine-tuned, like patients, determination and awareness, due to my practice are transferrable and I will be using them when I teach.
