Born in Egypt, schooled in Kuwaiti Government Arabic schools and graduated from Birmingham University, UK. After spending over 3 decades in service as a civil engineer, I have now retired to the beautiful town of Abbottabad, Pakistan, at the foot of the western Himalayas .
I spoke Arabic as a mother tongue and had a chance during school days not only to excel in learning the formal language, called fusha, but also to make friends from all around the Arab world . This gave me a deep appreciation of the many dialects in which Arabic is spoken and the cultural differences, similarities and peculiarities existing in Arab societies.
I have also learnt to speak fluent English, Urdu and have gained a fair knowledge of Punjabi, French and German .
During my employment as an engineer, I was often called upon to translate technical and contractual documents from Arabic to English for the benefit of colleagues and associated companies who did not have the required language skills . Translating documents like technical brochures, operation and maintenance manuals, engineering contracts and safety manuals remain my specialty.
Beside translation work, I will be very happy to assist students of the Arabic language to understand and fluently speak in either formal or dialect . Students requiring help in other subjects like maths and physics are also welcome but no school or university assignments will be carried out .
