Hey prospective students!

  • IB Global Politics, History and TOK Teacher (Jul, 2023Present) at United World College Costa Rica
    • I currently work at United World College (UWC), Costa Rica one of the UWCs eighteen global colleges.
    • UWC is is a global movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
    • For the 2023/24 year, I am teaching IB Global Politics to DP1 students (3 sections), IB History to DP2 students (1 section) and TOK to DP2 students (1 section).
    • I am thrilled to be able to combine my 3 and half years of teaching experience with my academic background in International Relations to develop and impart a dynamic Global Politics curriculum, while continuing to teach History and TOK.
    • Outside of my classroom responsibilities, I am a mentor, I co-chair The Global Issues Group, I founded and direct The Glee Club and serve on the committee for The New Educational Model. Additionally, I was selected as a Delegate to attend the 2024 UWC Congress, and I have been working with the College’s Safety Coordinator to update and build HSE systems.
    • My passion for, and commitment to supporting students in taking care of their mental health has continued at my new school.

    - I worked at The European School in Heredia, Costa Rica, an IB World School.
    - For 2022/23 academic year, taught World History to 8th and 10th Grade, IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) to 11th Grade, IB World History to 11th and 12th Grades.
    - At the European School I worked to overhaul the history curriculum and introduce a global approach to history that connects regions and world events over time. I also introduced revisionist history to my students.

    - My aim as high school educator is to support students in their formation of critical thinking and analytical skills, and to help them develop a sense of empathy, by connecting theoretical concepts to real world issues that impact society in Nicaragua and around the world.
    - In addition to supporting students to develop their skills, I aim to support students and encourage them to prioritise their emotional wellbeing through regular reflections and meditations.
    - This role has required a huge amount of flexibility, as the onset of the COVID-19 global health pandemic has moved the modality of instruction to from in person to online learning, and then to a hybrid system.
    - My colleagues and I had to adapt our teaching styles very quickly and incorporate a range of digital learning tools into out lessons.
    - In addition to teaching, I founded, and ran the school’s Glee Club. Additionally, I was one of the four House Mentors.
