I am Abel and I am excited to be part of your education journey. I have been lucky enough to have had many inspiring teachers (and some not so much!) and I know intimately the difference a caring, patient, knowledgeable and generous teacher can make in a student’s academic success and enjoyment.

I caught the teaching bug while working toward my physics degree at Harvard University and helping teach some courses and in the six years since I graduated, I have taught a diverse set of students: from 12 years old to 32, from academically precocious but bored to struggling to keep up. This has given me an appreciation for the wide range of abilities, interests and backgrounds that students have and has honed my skill at quickly identifying strategies and study plans that work for each particular student.

I am a firm believer that all students want to do better if they could and it is an educator’s job to figure out what is standing in their way. Thus, I approach my sessions with a wholistic and empathetic view of the student as an individual with needs and circumstances that our lessons have to fit. Thus, my first task is understanding where the student is at and setting goals collaboratively.

I generally like keeping my sessions conversational and informal so my students can relax and do their best. Lessons are generally targeted to tackle deeper conceptual understanding as well as mastery of techniques but are always student-need focused.

Subjects

  • Physics Grade 8-Bachelors/Undergraduate

  • Mathematics Grade 5-Bachelors/Undergraduate

  • Mathematics (A level)

  • Physics (A Level)

  • Mathematics (Calculus) Beginner-Expert

Experience

  • Senior Instructor (Dec, 2015Present) at Axiom Learning, Kuala Lumpur
    - Prepared and executed customized lessons for students ranging from ages 12 to 32 in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science following various curricula. Most of my students were able to raise their grade level by a letter grade or more.
    - Designed customized curricula for math and computing students seeking enrichment.
    - coached students as they prepare for standardized tests like A-levels, SAT etc... by helping them craft and implement a study plan while also helping them with content.
    - Communicated with parents and students to continuously adapt learning goals to the students need.

Education

  • BA in Physics (Sep, 2011Jun, 2015) from Harvard University, Boston MA

Fee details

    RM70150/hour (US$15.7333.71/hour)

The fee depends on how much preparation and outside work is expected to deliver the lessons. For students with many sessions, the fee will be lower as the preparation for many lessons can happen early on.
