I am a graduate teacher with an honour's degree in English. I have five years of experience in teaching English language and literature and one year experience in teaching English and literature to Cambrige Lower Secondary and O level students at a reputable international school in Sri Lanka. I focus on building language skills along with critical and analytical skills through reading, writing and analysing the use of literal and figurative language in texts. I incorporate powerpoint, visual and video materials when teaching both language and literature. Notes are given for every unit that is covered and students are assessed individually at the end of every lesson. Individual feedback will be given at the end of each assessment. Students' individual differences and learning difficulties are considered when teaching.

This course is designed to prepare students for the reading and comprehension section of the Cambridge English Language paper (1123), specifically targeting Paper 1-Reading (Questions 1, 2, 3b).

Structured around three key components—Reading Skills and Strategies, Reading for Comprehension, and Understanding Writer's Effects—following skills will be covered by the end of the course:

1. Deciphering the meaning of words and phrases within a text.
2. Grasping the overall meaning of a text.
3. Understanding layers of meaning in a text.
4. Understanding how writers achieve specific effects.
5. Recognizing and interpreting figurative language.
6. Analyzing and commenting on a writer's use of language to create desired effects.
