Teaching methodology As a master student I have had the opportunity to explore some of the history behind approaches and methods suggested to teach a language in different contextual backgrounds and locations, there is lots that a teacher can retrieve from others investigations and experiences, especially learning from what has been proved to bare fruits in the teaching process and disregard all that that may threaten the wellbeing of our students. In my own opinion experience and patience is what helps a good teacher shape their character and implement a good methodology, of course, all this combined with the previous knowledge and well prepared work and dedication. I believe there is in an old proverb that says “in teaching others we teach ourselves”
At Universidad de Cordoba the teacher is given the free will to implement the methodology he-she considers suitable for the learners. I personally and usually work my students using different methods depending on the assignment and the kind of task prepared for the class. Some steps in the methodology I use include the following.
· In my classes I use lots of visual aids, prepared by me or students own design.
· The use of extra material different from the guide book (updated and fun readings or videos). · Include all the four skills and give emphasis according to the subject and current need. · Pair work –cooperative learning has proven to help learners scaffold in the class. · There is teacher-group interaction where I tried to bring contextualized examples and mimic or make them laugh, so they get the idea and avoid using the mother tongue. · Language learning Techniques and strategies to accelerate the learning process are explored and given to help learners and myself in the learning and teaching process. · Working with students in some face to face tutoring to help them catch up with the rest. · Games(especially for beginners). · Provide learners with online resources for self-study and practice. · Social networking groups where they can interact and learn lots of colloquial language. · Evaluation and assessment; learners self-evaluate after every 2 lessons (the book offers that evaluation) in communication classes. There is also sporadically group evaluation and teacher evaluation (there is lots of room for growing as a class).
A teacher is responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Their duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.
