In my journey as an educator, I have built my practice around a philosophy where my service encompasses high standards achieved through self-discipline, taking pride in one’s work, having the right and positive attitude to work. This has been achieved by maintaining and enforcing school policies and ensuring there are no deviations from such.
As a leader, my philosophy is that every child matters and should be given equal opportunities to education, hence no child is left behind. To achieve this, all stakeholders would need to work in collaboration putting the pieces together to form a whole unit. The school, comprising of staff, teachers and students; the parents and the community at large should be involved in this collaborative effort.
Working as an educational leader, my responsibility is to set the pace and standard for teaching and learning. This must align with the school vision, mission statements and core values. Providing an enabling environment which allows for effective learning and active participation. Every stakeholder would be involved in the formulation and implementation of policies. Hence, this promotes fairness in instilling discipline and transparency in the delivery of service.
Feedback is very important as this helps to improve on our practice and achieve growth. As a leader, I allow for feedback through listening and good communication skills, then reviews for a more positive outcome. I also allow student input and feedback through student voice to help in decision making. Meetings are also forum for communicating and disseminating information.
In summary, my philosophy could be classified into two broad parts;
To teaching and learning; I believe in
providing a positive school culture and safe environment which allows for effective learning;
child centred method of learning where students own their learning;
every child matters in education;
activity based learning that requires positive mind set;
effective communication;
integrating technology into education;
As an educational leader;
My vision is to provide direction for my subordinates, those that I serve;
I believe in collaboration, teamwork and involving my colleagues in both planning and implementation of policies;
I like to be transparent and act in a fair and just manner;
Create an atmosphere which provides other to grow and develop their skills and leadership traits, hence I believe in leadership by succession;
Communication should be effective; listen to the concerns of others and allow ideas that bring about innovation and creativity;
In all we do, our practice should embrace ethical standards and good moral values.
